How and where to store a wine collection?

Rules to live by: wine should be stored where the conditions are consistent, with a constant low temperature and low humidity, and in a space that has no access to sunlight or vibrations of any kind.
The ideal storage temperature of most wines is 12.8°C. Relative humidity in the range of 75% helps to keep the cork in a particular state, which allows a slow and stable exposure of external oxygen to the wine.

The public consensus is that wines should be stored in a horizontal position, although an alternative exists: storing wine in a ‘tipped’ manner, so that part of the air bubble in the bottle touches the cork, yet the cork still has contact with the wine itself.
